Observing Mental Health Month

May is Mental Health Month, and here at Haven Family Therapy, I’d like to take a few moments to share my promise to you today and every day. I love the idea of #BacktoBasics to return to the values that lie at the core of my practice and how they affect you as a potential client

What Mental Health Month means at Haven Family Therapy

Mental Health Month was established over 70 years ago by Mental Health America and is used to amplify the voices of those talking about mental health awareness. From national organizations to community activism, every voice advocating for more (and better) mental health awareness deserves to be heard.

At Haven Family Therapy, I want to help you find your voice. Through our work, I hope to help you feel safe in accessing mental health care and eliminate mental health stigma from our South Florida community and beyond.

This is what it means to heal the Haven Way

As therapists, we believe in holding ourselves accountable right alongside our clients. We are here to invest in your healing, and my commitment to that is just as important as yours.

But what exactly does that mean? For me, it means:

In our session, there will be clear direction and intent.

Coming to therapy can feel daunting. When you dread those 50 minutes, it doesn’t exactly make you want to take the time from your busy life to fit it in. Yet, you deserve to know exactly how you’ll spend your time in therapy and feel confident that you are making progress you can measure.

There is a meaningful future ahead of you.

While I will make a plan for your session to encourage intentional conversation, you are very much the architect of your story. You’ll have the freedom to explore your struggles and guide the healing you need. The goal is for you to be able to write your next chapter as you need to find meaning and possibilities for your future.

You will have space to tell your story the way you want.

Speaking of your story, I use many techniques at Haven Family Therapy to help you find meaning in your past and consequently get you on the right path to your preferred future. However, no matter the combination of therapeutic tools used in your healing, you will never feel as if your story is being written for you.

The Mental Health Mission, this month and always

My mission here is simple, yet it encompasses complexities as unique as each of us. We will work together with a purpose to empower possibility and positive change in your life. You are at the center of your most sustainable future when you feel seen and heard, and I want to offer you the best space to achieve that. When you put the time and effort into yourself through therapy, I will ensure that your investment pays off.

The 5 values at the center of this mental health mission

Much research, evidence, and experience have built this practice. But beyond that is the very human experience of understanding what must occur in every session. These are the values I hold closest to my mission when we go #BacktoBasics.

Passion

During the session, you’re not talking to a blank wall. You are engaging in healing, and we are in this process together, both seeking what will make sense for you. From your first contact and right through to every time we meet, I hope you will see the passion and commitment present to help you achieve your goals.

Integrity

Integrity is about abiding by the laws and standards that dictate the profession. As a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, I believe that those regulations and laws are a minimum. Yet, we are constantly striving to exceed those standards in every way we can.

Authenticity

When you show up to therapy with your heart on display, that act is meaningful in so many ways. You are offering yourself in a vulnerable state, and I commit that I will arrive authentically every time. Your clinician is a professional who guides you along your journey, but we are also human beings, and we value that part of the meaningful bonds we build.

Collaboration

From consultation to a conclusion, developing a treatment plan is not a one-person show. We will use every resource and opportunity to build the most appropriate treatment plan. Together, we will make sure it continues to serve and fulfill you as we move through your journey.

Service

Counseling and therapy are, at their core, a service. I hope to serve you with compassion, honesty, and humility as I support you in finding your way toward your preferred future.
